IS IMPROV THEATRE STILL 'DRAMA' or 'ACTING'?

YES YES YES!  Improvisers learn acting skills, like characterization, emotion, and physicality, to create a believable and engaging performances on the spot. We teach all of this and more...it's just not scripted so students also learn to think quickly and adapt to changing circumstances, which is a unique aspect of improv theatre.

WHAT HAPPENS IN AN IMPROV WORKSHOP?

Students will engage in a variety of exercises and games to develop their skills in areas such as: Scene work, characterization, physicality, collaboration and story narrative. Workshops are specifically tailored to the groups interests, abilities and goals. Best of all we make it fun!

WHAT WILL I GAIN FROM THESE WORKSHOPS?

As well as the the skills listed above Improv Theatre helps to develop self confidence, communication skills, creativity, collaboration, problem-solving skills, and empathy. Students learn to work together, think on their feet, and take risks on stage with out fear of failure, which often transfers to other areas of life.

HOW BIG ARE THE CLASSES?

By keeping our classes small, we can provide more personalized attention to each student and help them reach their goals. We also want students to feel more comfortable and confident to take creative risks and try new things, which is essential for the creative and spontaneous nature of improv.

WILL THERE BE PERFORMANCES

We have a midyear and end of year performance giving students the chance to showcase their skills to an audience. Students collaborate with their creative coaches to co-create and put on the performances.
